On Monday, each student in kindergarten and 1st grade received a book purchased by the Casey in Action group. The CIA has done this for several years promoting literacy in the primary grades and we truly appreciate it! Thank you, Casey In Action!!

It's state testing week here at Monroe for 3rd-6th graders! Our students are prepared and ready to succeed! We have some really great incentives to offer students for their hard work and perseverance. Each day, students have the opportunity to earn TWO tickets - one for effort and one for behavior. Students who earn both tickets will earn a reward that day, up to 5 days! The snack cart below is one of the rewards, along with extra recess times. On Friday, all earned tickets will be entered into a grade level drawing, with a selection of 3 students per grade level. We have some great prize options, as shown below! Remember, you can help your students succeed by ensuring they get a good night's rest, eat a healthy breakfast, are able to practice mindfulness skills, and offering some encouragement!!!

State Testing for 3rd-6th grade takes place at Monroe next week, Monday, March 24-Friday, March 28! Here are some tips to help set up our students for a successful week! ~Provide a consistent bedtime routine, allowing for plenty of sleep! Screens off! ~Prepare a healthy breakfast! ~Arrive to school on time and prepared! ~Model mindfulness strategies/breathing exercises to help calm nerves! ~Think positive! Stress with students the importance of giving 100% effort during the test, then letting down the remainder of the day. ~Test-taking tips: -------Read all questions/answers thoroughly -------Eliminate answers you know are incorrect -------Double check answers with remaining time These are simple strategies that can help squash those test nerves & build confidence! Monroe also has organized some great incentives for students who give their best effort during the test & model great behavior during their classes non-testing times. We have buckets of tickets, and each day students will have the opportunity to earn TWO tickets. All students who receive both tickets will have some fun daily rewards, such as extra recess or the selection of an item from the mobile ~snack cart.~ At the end of the week, each student's earned tickets go into a drawing for some cool prizes! It will be a great week at Monroe, and we are excited to showcase our skills!

Mrs. Sackrider's kindergarten class celebrated St. Patrick's day with a fun afternoon of pop art, graphing lucky charm marshmallows, making a fruit loop rainbow, leprechaun pie, using fine motor skills to make a shamrock mosaic. After all the fun, Mrs. Sackrider made all of her students leprechaun slime complete with gold glitter.

Monroe is so thankful to live in a small community, where local businesses are willing to partner in our student's education! We want to THANK our local Casey McDonald's for supplying 18 Happy Meal coupons to be awarded to students who were participating in an educational incentive. When you shop & dine locally, you are able to support our community businesses, which in turn help support our school & students. Thank you again, McDonald's!
