Tentative Notice of Truth in Taxation Hearing

In accordance with Illinois Law, beginning in 2024, a school district must post a notice of Truth in Taxation hearing on its web site 30 days prior to the potential hearing.  In the case of 2024, this notice must be posted on November 15, 3 days before the Board of Education considers the tax levy for the first time.  Please be advised that the numbers stated in this notice have not been considered by the Board of Education and are therefore considered “tentative”.

Notice is hereby given by the Board of Education of the School District C-4 in the Counties of Clark, Coles, Cumberland, Crawford and Jasper, State of Illinois, that a Truth in Taxation hearing will be held at the 401 E Main Street, Casey, IL on the following:

Notice of Proposed Property Tax Increase for Casey-Westfield CUSD #C-4.

   I.       A public hearing to approve a proposed property tax levy increase for Casey-Westfield Community Unit School District #C-4 for 2024 will be held on December 16, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. at Unit Office, 401 E. Main, Casey, IL 62420.

  Any person desiring to appear at the public hearing and present testimony to the taxing district may contact Mike Shackelford, Superintendent, 401 E. Main, Casey, IL 62420, 217-932-2184.

   II.     The corporate and special purpose property taxes extended or abated for 2023 were $4,210,050.

  The proposed corporate and special purpose property taxes to be levied for 2024 are $4,582,506. This represents a 8.85% increase over the previous year.

   III.    The property taxes extended for debt service and public building commission leases for 2023 were $670,185.

  The estimated property taxes to be levied for debt service and public building commission leases for 2024 are $661,993. This represents a 1.22% decrease over the previous year.

   IV.    The total property taxes extended or abated for 2023 were $4,881,908.

  The estimated total property taxes to be levied for 2024 are $5,244,499. This represents a 7.43% increase over the previous year.
