Casey-Westfield CUSD #C-4’s Board of Education announced Tuesday evening that they have voted unanimously to hire Mr. Mike Shackelford as the new Superintendent. Mr. Shackelford currently holds the position of Superintendent of Schools for Brownstown CUSD #201, a position he has held for the past 7 years. He previously served as Jr/Sr HS Principal for 5 years in the same district. Prior to becoming an administrator, he served as HS Social Studies teacher and coach at CWHS from 2007-2012. He began his career as a HS Social Studies teacher at Martinsville HS in 2000. Mr. Shackelford has 24 years of experience in education as a superintendent, principal, teacher and coach. He received his bachelors, masters and specialist degrees all from Eastern Ilinois University. Mr. Shackelford will begin his new post on July 1, 2024.
The hiring of Mr. Shackelford follows a search by the district that included input from the community, faculty, staff and administration. The initial step of the process was a community, parent and staff survey. Utilizing the results of the surveys, the Board identified the next Superintendent’s focus areas. The school board reviewed applications, supporting documentation, and conducted extensive interviews, background and reference checks during the hiring process.
Board President Tracy Gelb stated, “Mr. Shackelford is a strong match to what the faculty, staff and community identified in their recent survey. I am extremely pleased, on behalf of the Board of Education, to welcome Mr. Shackelford to Casey-Westfield.” The Board wishes to thank the members of the community, parents, staff and administration for their valuable input. A lot of insight was gathered from the surveys. Hiring a Superintendent is one of the most important jobs placed upon the Board of Education. Partnering with the Community was vital to the process for selecting the next Superintendent.
